NBBA Coaches

NBBA has constructed one of the top coaching staffs at the HS Showcase level in Northern California. The coaching staff has over 50 years of high school coaching experience with 25+ of those years at the varsity head coach level. The goal of the NBBA staff is to create a high level environment where players improve on their skills, as well as getting the opportunity to showcase their play in front of college coaches and scouts to play at the collegiate level. In conjunction, the staff will employ the values of teamwork, togetherness, and toughness.

Brock Winter
Director of HS Showcase Program

Growing up as the son of one of the most successful basketball coaches in Northern California, Coach Winter has been around the game of basketball since birth. He played high school basketball for his father and NBBA Executive Director, Rick Winter, at Marin Catholic High School (CA) and was a two-year letter winner at the varsity level. In his senior year, Coach Winter led his team in scoring, served as a team captain and earned the honors of 2nd Team All-League and Honorable Mention All-Bay Area.

While attending Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, Coach Winter served as a student manager for Cornell University Men's Basketball team from August 2012 through December 2013. With Cornell he was an active participant during practices and games, worked out players before and after practices as well as during the offseason, and assisted with travel plans for team road trips. He also aided coaches with organizing their recruiting databases and creating itineraries for their recruiting trips.

In December 2013, Coach Winter graduated a semester early with Magna Cum Laude honors from Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management and a minor in Economics. On January 1st, 2014, Coach Winter began working for NBBA's sister program in Miami, the Erik Spoelstra Basketball Academy (ESBA) as the Associate Director. With ESBA he is in charge of all day-to-day duties with skill clinics, camps, and travel teams. While in Miami he helped place numerous players at the next level, whether it be at the Junior College, NAIA, or NCAA level. He is entering his third year with ESBA.

Coach Winter has been working with NBBA on and off since 2010. He was an active participant in the opening of NBBA and created the Academy's logo. During the summers while he was home from college, Coach Winter was in charge and oversaw the summer high school tournaments and incoming freshman league, coached travel teams, ran skill clinics, and also worked out college players preparing them for their upcoming seasons. In November 2015, he moved back to Marin County and was named the Director of Business Development and Director of HS Showcase Teams & Team Travel.

Jon Ratshin
NBBA Girls Showcase Coach

Coach Ratshin grew up in the Peninsula and attended St. Francis High School in Mountain View. He began his coaching career while in high school with a third grade team.

Upon graduation from Columbia University, Coach Ratshin began coaching the freshmen boys at Menlo School, while assisting with the JV and Varsity teams. He returned to St. Francis as a freshman boys coach for one year, while assisting on the Varsity CCS Champions and NorCal Finalists.

In 2000, Coach Ratshin moved to Woodside Priory as the Girls Head Coach, where he took over a team that was 2-16 the year prior. During two of his three years, his team qualified for the sectional playoffs.

In 2003, Coach Ratshin was hired at Kehillah Jewish High School as the Athletic Director and Boys Basketball Coach. While leading Kehillah, he earned the school's first ever win in any sport while taking the boys basketball team from JV to Varsity. They also ended up qualifying for section playoffs. Coach Ratshin took over the girls program in 2005. He took the girls program from JV to Varsity and qualified for section playoffs twice in three years.

In 2008, Coach Ratshin returned to Menlo School where he was named the Head JV Boys Coach and Varsity Assistant. Under Coach Kris Weems as a Varsity Assistant, Menlo won the CCS Section title. During this time, Coach Ratshin began his AAU/travel basketball club coaching career at Paye’s Place.

In the Fall of 2012, he moved to Sonoma where he began coaching for NBBA. From 2012-2015, he assisted with the Boys Varsity programs at two North Bay high schools; Novato High School from 2012-13 and Sonoma Valley High School from 2013-2015. While at NBBA, Coach Ratshin has coached several levels of boys and began coaching girls last Fall. The majority of the players from his select teams are now playing at the high school level. In September 2016, Coach Ratshin was named the Varsity Girls Head Coach at Petaluma High School.
